My name is Sophie (they/them)

I’m a tattoo and visual artist with an interest in the speculative futures written by material traces. I can be found on instagram under the handle @meta____morphosis. I’m currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area where I was born and raised. I occasionally work in New York, Glasgow, LA and London.

My drawings are responsive to place, moment and season. Like a divination ritual of sorts, they come from a practice of “reading” textural languages, material stories, and speculative possibilities through close noticing and tactile play with the animate “natural” world.

I see tattooing as a container in which to hone intuition, enact bodily autonomy, and feel into the magic of slow, deliberate transformation. I do my best to hold this container with an attentiveness to the power implicit in the exchange, the specificity of the client’s experience and identities, and a commitment to providing a safe, comfortable, and consent forward tattoo experience.

I’m in my third year of full time tattooing, and constantly refining my technique. I am “community taught,” and indebted to the knowledge and generosity of many skilled artists. While I feel confident in my skills and knowledge, I want my clients to be aware that I do not have years of healed photographs of my work to show. I find that I work best with clients who are process oriented, curious, and open to collaboration.

When I’m not tattooing or drawing, I enjoy walking in the intertidal zone, speaking to rocks, knitting, reading, dancing, cooking, and swimming in bodies of water.
