My name is Sophie (they/them)

I’m a machine/handpoke tattoo artist and visual artist currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area where I was born and raised.  I can be found on instagram under the handle @meta____morphosis.

My drawings are responsive to place, moment and season, which come from a practice of listening to textural languages and material stories through close noticing and tactile play. I enjoy collaborative and experimental design processes with clients, and value the relational dimensions of this work as much as the craft itself. I approach tattooing as a container in which to hone intuition, enact bodily autonomy, and feel into the potency of slow, deliberate transformation. I do my best to hold this container with an attentiveness to the power implicit in the exchange, the specificity of the client’s experience and identities, and a commitment to providing a safe, comfortable, and consent forward tattoo experience.

I’m in my third year of full time tattooing, and constantly refining my technique. I am “community taught,” and indebted to the knowledge and generosity of many skilled artists. I find that I work best with clients who are process oriented, curious, and open to collaboration.

When I’m not tattooing or drawing, I enjoy walking in the intertidal zone, knitting, reading, dancing, cooking, and swimming in bodies of water.
